Frequently Asked Questions

What is Crimson Shroud?
Crimson Shroud is a 2012 Nintendo 3DS role-playing game produced by Level-5 and directed by Yasumi Matsuno, a celebrated game designer of the late 80s and 90s who has just recently returned to the public eye after a six-year absence. The game is a part of the Guild01 superproject, a compilation of five games made by Level-5. Previously, Matsuno had worked on the critically acclaimed Vagrant Story, with which Crimson Shroud shares a number of similarities. Drawing from both a rich fantasy and historical background, Crimson Shroud's story is told through the frame of a tabletop role-playing game, requiring the player to make simulated die rolls and scroll through heavy amounts of text and still visual illustrations, as though they were actually playing a role-playing module with friends.

Sounds fun! Where can I buy it?
Crimson Shroud is not available on any store shelves. Instead, it is available for purchase through the Nintendo 3DS eShop service, requiring a direct download from Nintendo. Currently it costs $7.99 in US dollars, a very low price for the experience that the game delivers. (By comparison, a new, physical copy of a handheld or console RPG costs around $40-$50.)

What is this website?
The Gerseym Waterway is a fansite dedicated to Crimson Shroud, providing a comprehensive walkthrough, character list and story summary. We've only started up recently, but our aim is to fill the information gap surrounding Shroud and its gameplay. Matsuno games are infamous for their esoteric mechanics and general difficulty, and that only escalates in a game based around old tabletop games and 80s dungeon crawlers. Because of this, having the information at hand can be a useful tool to make the game more accessible.

The website's sole editor is Touya, otherwise known for his work at Cardfight Pro, an all-in-one database for the Cardfight!! Vanguard Trading Card Game.
